Project objectives

The Observatory was created to fill a significant gap: the lack of systematic and rigorous analysis of data related to visitors, usage patterns, pricing systems and access policies for cultural venues across Italy. The aim of the project is to encourage the use of big data in the cultural sector, fostering greater awareness and promoting the adoption of innovative tools for the management and enhancement of cultural heritage.

Promoting a Data-Driven approach

The scarcity of granular statistical datasets and the lack of comprehensive studies on the socio-demographic profiles and behaviors of cultural audiences hinder the development of evidence-based strategies, limit national and international benchmarking, and impede the creation of performance indicators that could support managers, institutions, policy makers and cultural enterprises. In a global context where competition for people’s attention and free time is increasingly fierce, it is essential to promote a data-driven approach that can improve the visitor experience, enhance management efficiency and support the economic sustainability of the sector.
